Hi:  Just wondering how long you keep a picture for consideration of a DPOTD?

I stopped sending as I thought I was being pushy.

Hi George;
Good question, and we really don't have specific "rules" about that.

It depends on the photo, and a couple of other factors.
If a photo is just not a good image, sometimes it gets deleted same day.

If it is a great image, lets say of a bird, but I have posted birds 2 out of the last 5 days, I may hang onto it thinking that we can use it once we have some other animals in the mix.

Also, if I have just posted a POTD from that contributor on that site, sometimes I'll wait a week or two so that folks don't think we are playing favorites. I think I waited a couple weeks before posting your Yellow Bird Formation, which was a favorite image of mine.

You're not pushy, and you have some great images, but I would always prefer that we have a good representation from numerous photographers whenever possible.

Not sure if that answered the whole question, but I will give some thought to detting more definite guildlines.

Which raises the question . . . are any images kept permanently?  Or do all of them end up in the bit bin eventually?

If I post an image as the POTD in any category. I keep it archived and it should always be available under the monthly galleries.

I also archive the original email with the image just to cover our butt from a legal/copyright standpoint.
