All I gave you was a partial view on the boatingpotd.com site to tease you a bit.

Can you name this restored classic?

Clues to follow...
It is interesting that 2 days in a row the POTD winners have both been from Reno, Nevada.

Nice area for stunning photographs, that part of the world.

Here is a partial bow shot. Note the detail in the wood.

This particular boat was famous enough that in 2007 the US Post Office issued a stamp with a picture of the boat on it.

Edward Hass, who submitted the photo, says:

"Originally  built at cost of $78,000
Today's value approx $6 mil
Still active and out in the lake daily.
Recently restored with 16 coats Marine Varnish plus Satin Brushed finish Stainless Steel Roof. Teak and mahogany over oak structure."

Supposedly powered by twin 1000 HP Allison engines, the same ones used in P-51 Mustangs in WWII

This is an interesting read about the playboy-millionaire who had the boat built in 1939

Quote
Howdy:
Three days ago Yacht hit an empty floating 50 gallon metal drum that was 2 inches above water line.
Pealed back the protective metal sheet covering the bottom of yacht.
Now approx $25,000 repair.
Fortunately only a few yard to the boat house.
Now sitting in a sling in boat house.

All donations welcomed Smiley

OUCH!!!
